- Does the argument make sense? Why or why not?
- What flaws are evident in the argument?
- Are the kids learning a valuable lesson, or are Rose Mary and Rex just using their logic to excuse their negligence?
Rose Mary and Rex have interesting logic to back up how they're raising their kids (and their lifestyle in general). Chose a quotation that demonstrates their logic and analyze it closely:

I am talking about the first quote. This argument does not make sense. In Rose Mary's delusion mind, it might make some degree of sense, however in practice it does not. A painting, while it can be admired, ultimately will not benefit their family anytime soon. Not before they starve. There are many evident flaws with this quote, such as the usefulness of a meal, as it can feed their family, and that the difference one meal can make could be be untold, while a painting might not make a huge difference in their family's life. This is simply an excuse for negligence. Rose Mary does not find it important to feed or take care of her kids, so she excuses this by stating that art is more important. It is clear that the woman does not understand priorities and does not grasp the concept that being a mother comes with responsibilities.

I chose "Why should I cook a meal that will be gone in an hour when I can do a painting that will last forever?", if that was not clear

"Why should I cook a meal that will be gone in an hour when I could do painting that will last forever" The argument does not make sense. Her family is starving and needs proper food to eat. It is not healthy the way their family lived. Why would she waste so much time on her paintings when they are worth nothing to her family and no one will buy them when food is a necessity to live. Yes it is the only thing she has a say in but she needs to realize what is happening to her family and do something about it.

The argument about spending time making a meal versus a painting does make sense, but at the same time, it does not. Sure, one can make a painting that will last forever instead of a meal, but at the same time, that meal could be a matter of life or death. In their family, food is scarce and if a meal can last more than one day, that is more valuable then a painting. There is no value to gain form this lesson, it's merely neglecting responsibility. Rose Mary can't be bothered to do her job as a mother and cook food for her family. The only lesson to be learned is to not follow in their mother's footsteps.
